Religion and World Views
Curriculum Information
We have recently revised our Religious Education curriculum, as part of our commitment to encouraging the children at Wheeler to be unique, open-minded and independent individuals, respectful of themselves and of others in our school, our local community and the wider world.
From September 2022, Religious Education (RE) has become Religion and Worldviews (RW) in recognition of the inclusion of worldviews beyond traditional world faiths. Children will continue to learn about key world faiths, through a mixture of Theology, Philosophy and Social Science, but this will be supplemented by non-religious worldviews.
During Key Stage 1, the children are given the opportunity to study Christianity and Islam in depth, with the introduction of Humanism in Year 2. During Key Stage 2, the children will continue to study Christianity and Islam, alongside Judaism, Humanism and Sikhism.
The school has strong links with St Martins Church, who enhance our provision during lessons and offer opportunities for visits. Over their time at Wheeler, our children will visit numerous places of worship and meet significant religious figures from within the local community.
If you are interested in supporting the teaching of RW by sharing your own religion or worldview with the children, please contact Mrs Wadley (laura.wadley@hcat.org.uk)
