Geography
Intent
Geography at Wheeler is a valued part of the curriculum, providing a purposeful means for exploring, appreciating and understanding the world in which we live and how it has evolved.
Geography explores the relationship between the Earth and its people through the study of Earth systems, place, space and environment.
Geography is concerned with pupils learning about their own locality, whilst becoming aware of and developing knowledge and understanding of the world beyond their own environment. Our Geography Curriculum at Wheeler is based on a near to far approach across a child’s time at Wheeler. This allows pupils to build on what they know best first – their local area.
Knowledge in Geography at Wheeler is divided up into 4 areas:
- Locational Knowledge
- Place Knowledge
- Human and Physical Geography
- Geographical Skills and Fieldwork
