Design & Technology – curriculum information

DT lessons at Wheeler are practical and engaging which allow pupils to be creative and design products suitable for the modern world. These lessons will develop resilient learners, who can adapt and refine when faced with challenges, enabling them to be effective problem solvers.

Teaching will develop pupils’ knowledge to; be creative thinkers and problem solvers who are resilient when faced with a challenge, design products that are relevant for modern society, create products through exploring and experiencing, be adaptable and develop and refine both skills and techniques, and continually evaluate products to carry out modifications.

As a school and in accordance with the National Curriculum’s expectations, we aim to ensure that all pupils:

  • Produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
  • Become proficient in drawing painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
  • Evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design
  • Know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms
